- Lack of updated software compared to the latest versions of installed systems
- Incorrect configuration of the initial parameters
- Procedural error during some step
- Lack of adequate physical support drivers (such as cd and hardware)

SOLUTIONS

I think the most annoying problem in VirtualBox is when you are not able to use it full screen. Here are the exact steps to follow to install the VirtualBox guest additions package on Kali Linux and solve these problems.
While we are, I will also include instructions on how to create a shared folder so that you can copy and paste the contents  between the host and guest operating system.

How to work, therefore, to these problems? First - even before the Guest configuration - check that the extension packs are installed in the virtual box. Without the extension pack, in fact, the addiction guest may not work. You can download the extension pack from here 

To install the extension pack in virtual box, follow these steps:


1. At the top left of your VB go to "File," and then move on "Preferences"

2. Now you will find yourself in the window that allows you to access to the voice "extensions". Click on this voice, as in figure:

3. Click on the right button with the yellow triangle

4. At this point, go to the folder where you saved the extension pack that you downloaded earlier, and open it by clicking on it

5. Now it will open this program window. Slide to the bottom of the side scroll button , then click on the "I Agree" button:

6. after that, it will open the installation window of the extension pack. Proceed with the installation7. Now wait the installation term

8. Now you can see your extension pack that appears in the pane you had open all start, 

    as shown:

As for the Internet, unless you have special requirements of "masking" you can also use the real system connection, namely that of the physical PC, so to speak.

The system will see the connection as LAN, if that does not work go to "settings-Network" and check that it is set to NAT. Alternatively or in case of problems, you can set "bridged" tab.

Without installing the dkms, when you update the VirtualBox Guest Additions kernel

In these cases, run the command:

# /etc/init.d/vboxadd Setup

or

# Service vboxadd setup

and VirtualBox Guest Additions will resume operating.

Correct way to install VirtualBox Guest Additions package on Kali Linux

Step 1: Install the Guest Addictions

One thing to note is that you must have the correct repository added before of the use of the virtualbox. After you add the correct repository and official, you must just update your package manager:

apt-get update

apt-get upgrade -y

apt-get dist-upgrade -y

It's best make upgrade and dist-upgrade before installing the headers. This because if you have installed a previous version of Kali Linux, correct headers Linux may not be available in the repository.

Install all dependencies by running the following command:

apt-get install linux-headers - $ (uname -r) -y

Step 2: Mount VirtualBox Guest Additions to drive
From the device menu on your VirtualBox, Go on Install option VirtualBox Guest Additions (while you're running Kali Linux) and you will see that is mounted a CD / DVD player.

Step 3: Copy and install the package

Go on in VBoxLinuxAdditions.run and perform the files from the root directory using the following command:

cp /media/cdrom/VBoxLinuxAdditions.run / root / Desktop /

cd / root / Desktop /

make it executable:

chmod 755 /root/VBoxLinuxAdditions.run

install it:

./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run

Once installed VirtualBox Guest Additions package, reboot Kali Linux.
With the comand: restart
In the screenshot above, note ... all done. Messages. When you see these, you know that the installation is come correctly

Now you can start  Kali Linux running on full screen on your VirtualBox.


Once this operation is completed you can connect the CD-ROM with the Guest Additions. You can do this by selecting 'Devices' from the VirtualBox menu and selecting 'Install Guest Additions.' This operation will mount the iso GuestAdditions in the virtual CD drive in your Kali Linux virtual machine. When will look the CD autorun screen, clicckate Cancel.

From a terminal window, go on in VboxLinuxAdditions.run copy the files from the CD-Rom of the Guest Additions to a directory on your local system and make sure it has execute permissions and run the file to start the installation.

/media/cd-rom/VBoxLinuxAdditions.run cp / root /
chmod 755 /root/VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
cd / root

./VboxLinuxAdditions.run

Reboot the VM Kali Linux to complete the installation of the Guest Additions. You should now have full support for the mouse and the screen and the poossibilità to share folders with the host system.

Create shared folders with the Host system

To share folders on your system with the VM Host Kali Linux, there are some small steps that need to be made.

In the VirtualBox Manager, select the instance of VM Kali Linux and clicckate the link 'Shared Folders' on the right side of the window. This will open a new window to add shared folders. From this clicckate window icon to add a folder.

In "Path", enter the path to the folder you would like to share, or make click on the drop down menu to navigate in your host system to the path. Select the check boxes that enable 'Auto-mount' and make "Permanent";  then make click the OK button both times when required.

Your shared folders will be available in the media directory. You can create bookmarks or links for easier access to the directory.

Installing VirtualBox Guest Additions on a CentOS guest.

First you install the development tools needed to compile and maintain the VirtualBox Guest Additions, proceed with configuring the kernel:


# Yum -y update kernel
# Yum -y install kernel-devel kernel-headers dkms gcc gcc-c ++ bzip2

Mount the CD-ROM of the Guest Additions from the Devices menu | Insert the CD image of the Guest Additions:
In the guest box, wait for it to open the window and click Run dell'autorun by entering the administrator password when prompted.

In case there is no graphical interface, for example in the Minimal version of CentOS you have not already started and are working from shell, the CD-ROM must be mounted by hand:

# Mount / dev / cdrom / mnt
# Sh /mnt/VBoxLinuxAdditions.run

Reboot and you're done.
